A record number of renewable energy projects was installed across UK small businesses and homes last year, according to new figures.

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) recorded 369,000 installations including solar panels, heat pumps and battery storage projects.

The number of installations represents a 34% increase on 2024 and the estimated annual generation of projects added last year is enough to power the London Underground network for a year.

“It’s great to see the record-breaking uptake of small-scale renewables across the UK, and these figures are only set to increase following the release of the government’s Warm Homes Plan” said Ian Rippin, CEO at MCS.

“This represents a fantastic opportunity for the sector to grow, but it’s critical that as more people invest in home-grown energy, high-quality, certified installations continue to underpin consumer confidence.”
